چکیده
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This has been an incredible journey, where I have had the fortune of working with the brightest people in the industry. It was truly a humbling, yet rewarding experience. I am indebted to Dr. Melvin for the incredible amount of support he has provided me during my time at Georgia Tech. He has gone above and beyond to help me through the many challenges I've faced in pursuing my doctorate degree. Dr. Melvin's knowledge in the subject of radar signal processing is inspiring and I am very fortunate to have learned from one of the leaders in the field. I thank Dr. Lanterman for his continual support and openness to the research I wished to pursue. He has provided me with connections that helped me through my thesis and connections that will pave the way for my future career goals. I thank my family and friends at home for their understanding and support. The friends I have met at Georgia Tech, especially, made it a memorable experience. Looking back, I enjoyed the times we studied together, even towards the daunting preliminary exam. It was great to have peers challenge you to think critically and differently. Last and mostly, I would like to thank my mother for her never-ending support. She challenged me to aspire for higher achievements in life and I would have never reached this far without her blessing. Even as I stumbled on the nadir of my life, I knew I'd persevere, as I could never let her down.

Adaptive Signal Detection in Auto-Regressive Interference with Gaussian Spectrum
A detector for the case of a radar target with known Doppler and unknown complex amplitude in complex Gaussian noise with unknown parameters has been derived. The detector assumes that the noise is an Auto-Regressive (AR) process with Gaussian autocorrelation function which is a suitable model for ground clutter in most scenarios involving airborne radars. The detector estimates the unknown...
متن کاملA New Method for Detection of Backscattered Signals from Breast Cancer Tumors: Hypothesis Testing Using an Adaptive Entropy-Based Decision Function
Introduction In recent years methods based on radio frequency waves have been used for detecting breast cancer. Using theses waves leads to better results in early detection of breast cancer comparing with conventional mammography which has been used during several years. Materials and Methods In this paper, a new method is introduced for detection of backscattered signals which are received by...
متن کاملPerformance Improvement of Radar Target Detection by Wavelet-based Denoising Methods
With progress in radar systems, a number of methods have been developed for signal processing and detection in radars. A number of modern radar signal processing methods use time-frequency transforms, especially the wavelet transform (WT) which is a well-known linear transform. The interference canceling is one of the most important applications of the wavelet transform. In Ad-hoc detection met...

متن کاملAdaptive Thresholding in Marine RADARs
In order to detect targets upon sea surface or near it, marine radars should be capable of distinguishing signals of target reflections from the sea clutter. Our proposed method in this paper relates to detection of dissimilar marine targets in an inhomogeneous environment with clutter and non-stationary noises, and is based on adaptive thresholding determination methods. The variance and t...
متن کاملExtending the Radar Dynamic Range using Adaptive Pulse Compression
The matched filter in the radar receiver is only adapted to the transmitted signal version and its output will be wasted due to non-matching with the received signal from the environment. The sidelobes amplitude of the matched filter output in pulse compression radars are dependent on the transmitted coded waveforms that extended as much as the length of the code on both sides of the target loc...
